2013 Highlights

  • Celebrated 34 years of enriching the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities
  • East Residence Renovation of nurses station, respite room and staff office includes a nursing medication room which allows for safer medication pass
  • Hosted meetings or was a retreat site for:  Lourdes University Entranceship class, Leadership Toledo Healthcare Day, Alzheimer’s Board retreat, Baskets of Care, Lourdes University Health Care Entranceship Day
  • Welcomed two new members to the JLR&CS Board:  Jonathan Ashton and Marge Bollman; and welcomed back Lynn Ritter
  • Directors continue to be involved in giving back to the community by being active members (Board or otherwise) of Springfield Holland Rotary, Downtown Kiwanis, Maumee Rotary, Senior Center Inc., MUI Stakeholder's meetings with Lucas County Board, OPRA Human Resources and IT Committee Chairpersons and DIstrict IV Board representative, Association of Fundraising Professionals
  • Resident, Ellen Schnell, received an ARC Award for Self Advocate of the Year 
  • Presentation from Dr. David Winters regarding iPad usage for individuals with disabilities
  • Hosted clinical therapy, recreation therapy, social work and nursing interns from: Eastern Michigan University (1), Mercy College (3), Owens Community College (4) and University of Toledo (7)
  • Implemented SignUp Genius for volunteer sign-ups
  • Hosted volunteer appreciation event at River Crossings in September
  • Hired a Director of Development & Communication
  • Our board president, Zachary Norman, received a National Philanthropy Award - Volunteer of the Year
  • Increased resident participation on Lucas County Special Olympics (LCSO)
  • Renamed our 5K to the Josina Lott 5K Jog & Jaunt
  • Increased the number of shredding contracts, waiver clients and staffing at River Crossings
  • Launched Inclusive Miles, a running program which offers athletes with disabilities opportunities to participate in training and races at no cost
  • Received a grant from Toledo Roadrunners Club to underwrite the costs of Inclusive Miles running program
  • Awarded grants from Maumee Rotary and TKBW Foundation for funding of bus replacement in fleet of buses
  • Began using Constant Contact to send e-newsletters twice per month
