2010 Highlights

  • Some of the many projects completed in 2010 include:
    • New Dining Room Chairs
    • Attic Re-Insulations
    • Access Driveway Paving
    • Irrigation Sprinkler System; Phase II
    • Residential Landscaping Update
    • Rubber Roof Repair of Residences
    • Commercial Ice Machine for River Crossings
    • New Furniture for the East & West Living Rooms
    • Installed a Multimedia Screen in the Gym
    • A new Weber Grill for Community Services Program
  • Implemented an in-house supervisor training to educate supervisors in the areas of leadership, effective communication and supervisory skills.
  • Completed another successful Medicaid survey
  • Our Newsletter, Voices of Independence, received a makeover to match the brochure and website.
  • Developed a Facebook page to promote our quality services and programs, and to foster a closer relationship with our fans and family members.
  • The Community Adult Recreation (CAR) program continues to grow and now offers an average of 13 events/activities per month.
  • Installed a lighthouse on the driveway island to recognize our founders, Fred & Judy Fleischer, as visionaries who were ahead of their time.
  • Through the volunteer department, we had 4,672 volunteer hours for 2010 and we hosted:
    • 10 Recreation Therapy Clinical Students from the University of Toledo;
    • 4 Owens Community College Occupational Therapy Clinical Students;
    • 2 Marketing Interns from BGSU; and
    • 3 Lourdes College Fellowship Students
    • Special volunteer events included:
      • Martin Luther King Service Project
      • Valentine’s party
      • Arbor Day Celebration
      • Global Youth Service Day
      • Spring Carnival
    • St. Ursula Day of Caring
    • National Make a Difference Day
    • Haunted Pathway Walk
    • Halloween Dance
    • Hanging of the Greens
  • 9th Annual Lawn Games was held with 92 volunteers and approximately 250 people attending. Added the feature of sponsorships and two 50/50 Raffles.
  • Gave back to the community various ways, such as the individuals distributing Mobile Meals and visiting with the participants at the Alzheimer’s Center, Directors serving as members of Chicks for Charity, Springfield Holland Rotary, Downtown Kiwanis, Senior Center Inc. Board, Agency Director’s Association Board, Mobile Meals Board, and the Alzheimer’s Board Chair.
